Nerve Wrecking Experience
Akshay had a chance to try out his talents by participating in the Guild this year, put together by the American College of Musicians and the International Music Association. He spent months learning and memorizing 10 pieces; yes, 10 committed to memory and each piece was complex! Students are judged on individual merit, by a well-qualified music professional, in the areas of accuracy, continuity, phrasing, pedaling, dynamics, rhythm, tempo, tone, interpretation, style, and technique. Understandably so, my baby was on pins and needles leading up to this day; but kept surprisingly, kept his cool as soon as we walked in for our audition. We arrived a little early to give him more time to relax; but since we were early, the judge decided to get started straight way and had him start playing immediately! He did very well for a first-timer and we hope encouraged to participate again next year. This sort of event is good for him as a musician and is also a test of his determination!
