Little PowerPointers

When I first discovered Microsoft PowerPoint, I thought it was the coolest thing ever – the lay-outs, the graphics, the ability to knock out a presentation on one’s own where previously you had to utilize the services of professional graphic designers. I was twenty….uh something. But today, everyone is using it and my daughter as early as 2nd grade created her first PowerPoint presentation.

Two students from each of the 2nd grade classes were chosen to conduct research on a selected topic and then create his or her own presentation. Parents and other students were invited to the viewing. The morning of the event, my daughter expressed anxiety about the presentation. So I went into mommy-mode and gave her a pep-talk--that it is okay to be a little nervous and that I am sure she will do a good job and that sort of thing. She stops me to say, “No, mommy, I am actually worried that I am NOT nervous. My teacher was telling the class that it is good to be a little nervous, but I am not feeling that way at all.” Laugh out loud! She gave a great presentation on crabs, with lovely visuals and sound effects (built in clapping audience was sound of choice), and all without the least bit of butterflies in her tummy!
