- On some days, we dragged ourselves to class even though Akshay did not want to. He is a kid and I can’t blame him for days he’d rather have been playing outside instead or even for times that he was simply too tired to go. But despite those feelings, we went to class anyway.
- There were times he thought his forms were too hard or that his sparring was too much, but he had stick to it.
- It has hard to juggle homework, school work, social life and other activities, but Akshay made marital arts a priority.
- There were many times where we rushed through or even skipped dinner and meals just to get to class on time.
- There were times we had to make hard choices like giving up other activities that would have conflicted with karate class schedules.
- There were belt tests prior to this one that were difficult and trying, but Akshay stayed focus.
- We even overcame times where we thought he would get hurt and days that I cried fearing just that. It’s hard to see your baby getting injured our having others pounce on him, but it came with the territory. The “Mother Bear” instinct had to be inhibited to allow Akshay to do what he had to do.
- We even forced ourselves to get class on days that it was too cold outside, too inconvenient or just too much for us at the time.
Despite all of these obsticles, Akshay did what he set out to do. We’re proud of our son for the exquisite belt he can now boastfully wear. My baby earned his black belt at a ripe young age of 10 and had spent almost 4 years achieving this long-term goal of his! He wants to continue martial arts and continue earning higher and higher ranks.
