Navratri
We celebrated Navratri here in Charleston, hosted by the local Gujarati Samaj. They do an excellent job for the nine night festival including nightly dancing, live singers and excellent food. I was so proud of my kids this year, both danced – Ashu did garbas, a traditional folklore dance of India, for the first time! And then they both partook in the dandiya raas (circular dance using sticks!). I may have broken my record for longest dancing, whenever I was there it was for hours non-stop. It was fun and nice being back in Charleston. And the live singers added such an authentic touch to the tradition!
