Spring Escape from Ohio

For Spring Break, we escaped from Ohio and headed to Washington, DC followed by a trip to Pennsylvania to visit family. We met a couple of other families from here and then met up with an old college friend who lives in DC. Family trips are more fun when there is more than the family along! We adults had fun and the kids had company the whole time. We avoided the constant stale questions of “When are we going to eat,” “When are we going to get there,” and “Can we go now?”

We did the usual tourist attractions including the White House, State Capital, Washington Monument, Museum of Natural History, Museum of American History, National Air and Space Museum, Washington Aquarium, the National Zoo (where we saw Panda Bears!) and more. The last two were the kids’ favorites. Washington DC has a lot to offer and surely we will return. We made it to the last day of the Cherry Blossom Festival but most of the blooms where blown away to the heavy winds during the time.

Though we are usually public transportation snobs, we LOVED riding the Metro this time. It made it so much easier than having to deal with the parking issues around the DC area. Fine dining included the Bombay Club (where former President Clinton frequented) and an authentic Ethiopian Restaurant called Meskerem. And since we were on vacation and it was Easter time and we were all having a good time, we ate like there was no tomorrow. However, TODAY, we are paying the price. Finally, as much as I complain about the Cleveland weather, it was our tragic luck that it was warmer in Cleveland than in DC during our trip. We ended our trip with family and friends and MORE food in Pennsylvania. We always get a warm welcome when we are there and we are more often than not, overfed and over-cared for.
